Come sketch your impressions of Florence’s hidden vistas.

Join me at my most favorite sketching spots.

It all begins with an angle, a vista, or a scene. You can take a picture, but that’s fleeting. When you sketch, you truly see.

This is a wonderful introduction to Florence. Capture your early moments in an ancient city filled with subtle beauty. Stop to appreciate through true observation. Make this your first stop as you get acquainted with the sounds and sights. This is not an art history tour. It’s a shared experience of observing.

Beginner? Amateur? That’s not important.

No matter your level, the goal is to simply sketch.

You bring the paper, your preferred pen, pencil, or brush, and your curiosity.

I provide the locations, the encouragement, and suggestions on composition, contrast, and perspective.

Anyone at, any level is welcome.

The purpose is to have fun. There’s no pressure to do anything but begin to see.

Three Hours of Discovery

Over the course of three hours, we sketch three different scenes. Each scene offers the chance to explore a different aperture — from horizons to close-ups. I’ve chosen specific spots that will challenge you to clarify your impressions.

Gather

Meet at one of my favorite cafes to make introductions, ensure everyone has their tools, and review our schedule (while enjoying a cappuccino or Aperol Spritz).

Sketch 1 - Vista

Our first stop will be a spot that overlooks a vista point. We’ll warm up our eye and hand viewing a wide open scene perfect for initial sketching.

Sketch 2 - Piazzo

Our first stop will be a spot that overlooks a vista point. We’ll warm up our eye and hand viewing a wide open scene perfect for initial sketching.

Sketch 3 - Street

Our first stop will be a spot that overlooks a vista point. We’ll warm up our eye and hand viewing a wide open scene perfect for initial sketching.

Return to Start

At the end of the third hour, we will return to where we first began to share any parting thoughts and say our goodbyes. I make sure to finish on time.

I’m Alexander - let’s sketch together!

I’m an artist that lives and works in Florence attending the Classical Academy of Fancy Stuff.

I practice with chalk and oil paint all day. Helping you learn the principles of sketching gives me an immense amount of pleasure. Watching your art skills come to life is a welcome distraction from my long days at the easel.

Join me and I’ll take you to my best finds in Firenze. I love meeting new people and seeing their excitement grow as they capture images of this wonderful Italian Renaissance city that I’ve fallen in love with.

It all began with an idea — how can I share what I love about Venice and what I’ve learned as an artist?

I am a native English speaker that understands Italian, Spanish, and some Russian.

Alexander was so much fun! Sketching with him was a great introduction to Florence. He felt like a big brother.”

I suspect I’m a bit older than the regular attendees, but Alexander made sure to change the itinerary to suit my needs. I’m super happy with the results. Thanks!”

I stayed back at the apartment and took a nap. I still regret it.”
